International Trade Committee meetings
When Britain joined the then Common Market we enjoyed a substantial trade surplus with the Common Market countries. We now run a continuing and increasing Trade Deficit. Why is this?
As a member of the
International Trade Committee of the European Parliament, perhaps will help me to find out the answer. One thing is for sure the United Kingdom has not represented itself at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) since 1975. By contrast the former British colony Hong Kong which is not even an independent country still has its own independent representation at the WTO.
